Henry Noble (~1830-1907) was my GG-Grandfather. He emigrated to Glasgow from Co. Fermanagh in the 1840s. I have found his parents, John and Rose Noble, and his brothers William, John and Christopher all in the Turbid Church records (big thanks to George Armstrong). But there is no record of Henry, only another brother called Mark who was born around the same time as Henry. Could Mark have changed his name to Henry? Any info appreciated.

  • Parish records sometimes have pages missing and occasionally baptisms got omitited or were illegible. I have seen some where the person performing the ceremony just wrote ?male child? and then the parents names, with a note to say ?include name later?. He had evidently forgotton the child?s name.

It?s possible that Mark changed his name to Henry but I would say that would be unusual.

Have you searched to see if there?s any trace of Mark Noble? That way you would be able to say whether he was a different person. For example there is a marriage registered in Lowtherstown/Irvinestown in 1874, and a death there in 1913 for someone born c 1828. There are several Mark Nobles in Fermanagh in the 1901 census.
