I would like to thank Carmel O'Callaghan for the reply.  We have indeed done a lot of searching for the Ball ancestors as we know that they came from Co. Fermanagh.  I have a lot of details, but I am concerned about how much to write in this space.  The deaths at familysearch.org that may belong to William are probably not 'our' William. From the records that we have, we have found a William (1812 - 1866) buried in Trory.  We believe that he was the son of Frances and Sarah Ball of Drumcoo.  If our records are correct, he had a brother, John (1814 - 1862) who was also buried in Trory.  'Our John', my gggrandfather, died in 1877 and was buried in Grace Presbyterian Cemetery in Cavan Township, Ontario, Canada.   Our John had a relative, Frances Ball who joined him in Canada in 1832 (according to the agricultural census for that year).  Frances Ball died in 1851 in Kent Co., Ontario, Canada.  His gravestone stated that he was "a native of Inniskilling."   We do not know if Frances was a brother or a cousin.  John could read and write, but Frances signed his documents with his mark "X".  This would not rule out that he was a brother, but we have no proof.  The Enniskillen area seems a promising place to search for 'our' John, his brother William and William's son Thomas and for more information about their relative, Frances.  

I am very interested in the fact that your reply comes from Bailieborough, Cavan.  We are also searching for information about  another ancestor, Edward Sanderson (1796 - 1884) who, according to oral family history, came from Bailieborough, Cavan, Ireland.  He went to Boston (1819 - 20), married Annabell Marshall about 1828 in Philadelphia, USA.  They moved to Cavan Township, Ontario and one of their daughters, Annabella Sanderson (1837 - 1877) married my great grandfather Josiah Ball (1837 - 1916)  in 1858.  

 I would certainly appreciate receiving any possible (or probable) information about this branch of my ancestral tree.

    Its a wet Sunday here & I am trailing this site, with the hope to help others, particular when it is neighbouring county, or a name I know.

    The name Edward Saunderson  (1837 - 1906) in relation to County Cavan means only one man & this may or may not be part of your family - please look at this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Saunderson.

    Another source that may help you is Jonathan Smyth he comes  from Cootehill, Co. Cavan he works for the Johnston Central Library, I purchased a book of his on Thomas James Barron 1903 - 1992 & in the book it states Barron's great great grandfather was James Barron & he married a Jane Saunderson of Cornaveagh & their children were born from 1794 - 1815.

    I dont know if you ever made any headway with your Saunderson's.  Anyway, I was at a conference recently & I met a Billy Saunderson, the first time I have met anyone with that surname, so I got his email & gave him your query.  He came back with this reply: (Best Wishes Carmel)

    Back to you regarding enquiry on Sa(u)ndersons.
    There were a large number of Sa(u)nderson families who were members of the Presbyterian Church congregation in Corroneary, Co. Cavan. Corroneary is located close to Bailieborough.
    I found records of these families as far back as 1770. I was able to view the church records by arrangement with Leslie McKeague a member of the church congregation in Bailieborough.
    My research suggested at least 5 or 6 families were resident in the townlands of Killncrew, Tullelurken and Latsey - all adjacent to Corroneary, at the time  the Tithe Applotment Books were drawn up in 1827. There is no Saunderson resident in the area now.
    The records confirm that members of all these families changed the spelling of their name from Sanderson to Saunderson around 1790.
    I examined the extract I produced from the church records of all Sa(u)nderson births/baptisms for an Edward born 1796.
    This is what I found:
    A son, name not recorded in the ledger, was baptised in Corroneary Church on Sept 10,1796 whose parents were Edward Saunderson and Sarah Gamble. The children of this couple who are recorded are- Jane (1792), John (1794), name unknown (1796), Robert (1799), William (1801), James (1805), Mary (1807), Anne (1810), James (1811), Aron (1814) and  Sarah (1815).
    Given the practice of naming children after parents-see child Sarah called after mother Sarah, I would speculate that it is very possible that the son, in 1796, whose name was not recorded may have been called Edward after his father.
    I traced my own Saunderson back to a member of this family- Robert Sa(u)nderson , born circa 1750 and wife Charity Bole.
