  • Hi there,

    Thanks for your message.

Michael Moran and Winifred Spelman were married on 26 January 1845 by Rev. Myles Sheridan; the sponsors were John Spelman and John Griffin. It's difficult to say whether Michael was from Annaghdown Parish, but it's very likely that Winifred was.

The Tithe Applotment Books of c. 1827 record one William Spelman living at Parkliddane - this is an unofficial placename corresponding to parts of the townlands of Bunatober and Balrobuckbeg; see link. Griffith's Valuation of c. 1855 records Patrick Spellman living at Balrobuckbeg and Martin Spellman living at Bunatober; see link. There were no Spelman/Spellman families living in this area by the time of the 1901 census.

Two children of Michael & Winifred have baptisms recorded at St. Cuthbert, Durham: Michael on 17 April 1853 and Maria on 25 May 1856.

I hope that the above is of some help.

    Best wishes,

    Paul.

    Annaghdown Parish
