Through the Attestation Papers of my 2xgreat-grandfather Michael Fahy I have discovered that he was born on the 16th December 1834 at Balankill (sic), Galway.

His father's name is Michael and his mother's name is Bridget.

We have traced Michael's descendants but have no other details of his parents or if he had any siblings.

We would be grateful for any assistance.

Thanks

John

  • Hi John,

You might want to try a site called www.rootsireland.ie/

There are 10 records of baptisms/births in Galway 1834 + - 10 years of children with parents Michael & Bridget

I thought the marriage of Michael & Bridget might have fewer matches and searched Galway 1828 + - 6 years and got 3 matches.

You do need to purchase credit to view the full records

There is another long-shot: there closest match for Michael junior's birth (parents Michael & Bridget 1843 Galway is 1847 but the record MAY have Bridget's surname.

There is no Ballinakill in the list of parishes in the Galway list on the site (click the magnifying glass at the right end of the record)

  • John,

I am looking for information about my great great-grandmother Catherine Fahy (1827-1889). She was born in Ballinakill Parish and married Michael Murray. I wonder if there is a chance she is the sister of your Michael Fahy born 1834. If you have any information it would be appreciated.

    Thank you sincerely,

    Rose (Inglish) Minear

  • Hi Rose,

I would love to be able to help but despite the valuable suggestions I still have not found any further details of Michael's parents Michael and Bridget nor of any possible siblings.  I'm still hoping though.

    Best wishes

    John
