Would someone know what happened to Maggie and Michael Connelly, children of Michel Connelly and Catherine Kenny? They are listed in the 1911 census of Cornanantamore, aged 29 and 27, living with their mother who is a widow (of Michael Connelly)..

    Welcome to ireland Reaching Out!

I searched at www.irishgenealogy.ie for civil marriage and death images for both Michael and Maggie/Margaret and did not find a likely record for either person. I only searched records in the Mountbellew registration district which would include Killeroran civil parish. Images are available for marriages up to 1940 and deaths up to 1965. They could have emigrated or events not civilly registered or they may have died after 1965.

I would check the site just to make sure I did not miss a family record.

  • Thanks Roger. I had never looked into civil registration records, but just did, and found in the Mountbellew district the marriage of Michael Connelly, son of Michael Connelly, both farmers, in Newbridge, on Jan. 30th, 1913, to Elizabeth (Bessie) Killelea. I cannot read the name of their residences. That would be a valid possibility, I think.

I also found a death record for a Michael Connolly, aged 70, in Newbridge on 28 sept 1933. That is too old to be the Michael Connally that I an interested in, born in 1884. It may also invalidate the previous record as being the Michael Connelly I am looking for, as his father Michael died between 1901 and 1911.

As for the possibility of emigrating, it is rather high. Four aunts and one uncle emigrated to the US in the second half of the nineteenth century. Michael's mother is the only one that I know of that remained in Ireland. I will investigate again the possibility taht he and his sister emigrated also..

Don't know if you have access to Ancestry.com but I would search there (census records etc) for Michael and Maggie. Unfortunately, you have a very common surname to research.
