Hi All,

I'm looking for Hynes who's family has been in Loughrea since at least the late 1700's/early 1800's that might be descended from a Patrick b.1829, Patrick b.1810, or Lawrence b. prior to 1800, or, frankly any other Hynes who might have some info.  These Hynes were from Kilchreest/Loughrea, and came to the United States (Bangor, Maine) around 1840-155.

I have done extensive research over the years on my ancestors from Loughrea, but at this point, I've had to make some assumptions on certain data points.  If there are any Hynes men out there who have info and/or would be willing to get a Y-DNA test to see if we're related, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks,

-John-Eddie

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

You may want to check the online Irish phonebook http://www.eirphonebook.ie/#   There are Hynes in the Loughrea area and maybe you can write some letters to these individuals. Make sure you use the Residential Tab when you make the search.

I will also alert our parish liaison for Loughrea about your message.

  • Hello John Eddie,

There is a Hynes family from Srah which is about 4km north of Kilchreest, Loughrea which may be of interest . From the obituary of the late Anthony http://rip.ie/showdn.php?dn=95750/AnthonyHYNES/Loughrea/Galway some names and additional locations of family members may also be of help.

  • Hi,

I'm decended from a Patrick Hynes from Loughrea. He died 4 April 1892, at age 41. Married to Ellen (nee Kennedy).

There were four children: Michael, Margaret, Lilly & Sarah.

'My' Patrick may be a nephew, perhaps?

Let me know if I can help more. :-)

    Hi Sally

Interested to know if your family immigrated to NZ? My Wall family from Loughrea immigrated to NZ in 1874 and settled in Thames.

    Regards

  • Hi Ross,

My grandmother (Sarah Hynes) came to NZ by herself, married my grandfather in 1921 when she was 33, in Auckland, then later they moved to the Waikato (Cambridge). I found her in the 1901 census at home in Loughrea, but not the 1911. A niece (Angela Marmion) came down to NZ and stayed for a bit in AKL, but moved on down to Christchurch (not sure of dates).

    Regards,

    Sally MacLean, New Zealand

  • Hi Sally

Would seem my ancestors left Loughrea long before yours and although the both ended up in the Waikato,  it is doubtful they ever met.

     Regards.
