John bornNovember 1841, according to census records. Came to the US MAY 1851. Port of Departure- Galway, Ireland. Ship- Brig. Doctor Kneip. Records indicate ship's name as Doctor Kneiss. Residence: Kingarrow, which is a hill in Ireland, state/region of Donegal. All by himself. no records of him again until 1860 census. He stays with a Patrick McGuinnes and family in Geneva NY. He had a brother (we think, or a cousin) not confirmed William born 1852. 2 records I have show 1868, and 1870 as his immigration year. .. No record of him getting here. They married the Tannian sisters Bridget and Anne. And they had their families in Geneva NY. I can't find anything else. This is where my family tree starts. I would love to go back to my families days in Ireland. If anyone can help, thank you

In the mid- 19th century, the surname Lydon was almost exclusively a Galway/Mayo surname with the majority in Galway. The Kingarrow townland in Co. Donegal is in Inishkeel civil parish and there were no Lydon records in that parish in the 1857 Griffiths Valuation. Also, no Lydons in the 1901 census.
Lydon in Co. Galway is primarily in the west of Galway. Roots Ireland has 17 baptismal records for John Lydons in the 1830s but since you don't have his parents names, you can't confirm if any of these records are for your ancestor.
You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing. Possibly you will match others with Lydon connections who have more information on the family origins in Ireland.

Thank you very much. We did do the DNA test through ancestry.com. Also out of the 17 baptism records, is it possible there are records for a William ? Maybe one of those John lydon records, also has a William with same parents? Just a thought.

Also, both John, and William Lydon stayed with Mcginnis Families upon arriving in Geneva Ny. Maybe this can help find the connection

Unfortunately, I have a limitation on how many records I can access (subscription site). You may want to consider a short-term subscription to Roots (one day or one month) in order to do the analytical work you suggested.
