  • John 1859, Sponsors: Stephen Burke & Catherine Mulley
  • Edmund 1861, Sponsors: Walter McDonough & Margaret Mullen
  • William 1863, Sponsors: Walter McDonough & Penelope McDonough
  • Thomas 1865, Sponsors: Walter McDonough & Penelope McDonough
  • Mary 1868, Sponsors: Patrick Malley & Honor McDonough
  • Joseph 1871, Sponsors: Walter McDonough & Honor McDonough

Peter died in 8 Mar 1881 age 54 and is buried in Moycullen Church graveyard.

Bridget died in 24 January 1913 age 87 and is buried in Moycullen Church graveyard. Witness at her death was her niece Julianna McDonagh.

Four of Peter & Bridget’s sons are buried with them, Patrick, John, Edmund and Thomas.

William moved to Waterford and married Mary Josephine Keily on 29 Jun 1896.

Mary and Joseph went to Baltimore, Maryland USA

Mary married a Timothy Gavin and Joseph married a Selina Turner.

Peter and family lived in Knockaunranny according to Griffith's Valuation and had very familiar names for neighbours ie Denis Dunne, John Lydon, Peter Clancy and Patrick Gavin.

I am Joseph's grandson, John S O'Toole, and I am searching for information on O’Tooles (Tooles) and McDonoughs (McDonaghs) that may be related.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The RC records for Moycullen parish http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0633  go back to the late 1700s but there is a gap with the records fromMarch 1823 to January 1837. The gap period unfortunately covers the likely period when Peter and Bridget were baptized. I also checked the 1828 Tithe listings for Moycullen parish and there were no O'Tooles or McDonaghs in Knockranny (spelling used in the Tithes). I did find Bridget in the 1901 census with a niece Norah McDonagh (sister to Julianna?). In the 1911 census I found a Bridget Toole in the townland listed as a niece to a couple called Gavin. I'm wondering if this is your Bridget since she did not pass away until 1913.

You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing to see if you match someone with O'Toole or McDonagh connections. You may not match someone in Ireland but maybe someone in the States.

By the way, I live north of Towson and one of our daughters lives in Severna Park.

  • Roger, thank you so much for your reply. I grew up in Baltimore and my sister currently lives in Lutherville.

I have been working with Mary O’Toole Fortune, who is from Moycullen, and currently lives in Dublin. We have made a lot of progress, but continue to run into the same Dead-End!!  We have both done an autosomal DNA test and both Mary and her brother Gerard show up as 2nd to 4th cousins. Our problem is we cannot make the connection between my great-grandfather ‘Peter’ and Mary/Gerard’s great-grandfather ‘Michael 1836-1913’ and/or his father ‘John 1800 ??’.

I also keep reaching a Dead-End trying to find any of my great-grandfather’s siblings. These individuals are surely related to Mary’s ancestors.

I have more recently been trying to focus on the McDonagh side of the family, because for some reason they show up as sponsors for my grandfather and his siblings. No O’Toole’s are shown as sponsors.

    Will continue searching!!

  • I may have some McDOnough History that is relevant.  I am DNA connected to Mary O'Toole Fortune and I have McDonough relatives from Spiddal or actually Boliska.   2 still live there.  My grand-father James McDonough was the son of Edward and Bridget and was born in 1885 at Boliska.  He migrated to Portland Maine and married Nora Lee (from Kilroe near Spiddal) .  My first cousin, once removed still lives in Boliska near the house where James was born, He is the son of Cullin McDonough. My email is mike_young@comcast.net. Please note the underscore
