My great-great-grandfather was Denis Gallagher. He was probably born around 1810. His wife was Catherine Quinn. According to information I have been able to develop, they had at least 5 children. They are Patrick, Daniel, Michael, Martin and Bridget.

Martin is my great-grandfather. According to his headstone, Martin was born in 1838. In 1865, he emirgated to the United States settling in New York state, just north of New York City in Putnam County's Cold Sping. He died on 15 December 1908. He married Mary Brogan (widowed Holden) on 12 Sep 1868 in Cold Spring.

I have no information on Daniel or Bridget, except that, according to family stories, Bridget accompanied Martin when he relocated and then she returned to Ireland.

Michael was born in 1842 in County Galway. I assume it was in Peterswell, but have no confirming documentation or information. He married Elizabeth Brogan. They had 6 children. According to an entry in the Emigrant Savings Bank of New York's ledger, as of 1871, both Denis Gallagher and Catherine Quinn were deceased.

Patrick was the eldest, having been born around 1830. He died in 1923 in New York state, city of Poughkeepsie.

I have no further information on the Gallaghers or Quinns in Ireland and hope someone on this message board may be able to add to my information

  • Hello Bobcat, looking at old queries, you appear to be in Gort parish and I just done another Gort query for a Catherine Quinn married a Mitchell so know Gort church records are late commencing in 1848 for baptisms and 1853 for marriages so we cannot locate information for you.

See https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0623 It is possible there are earlier records but I see the new church there (RC) was built in 1856 so possibly any previous reocrds were  lost or not kept even though some earlier records are there.

Seached a subscription site to no avail either.

    Good uck
