If there is anyone with access to Boston marriage records would it be possible to look up the marriage of Delia Ward and Percy Johnson on 15th August 1887 to perhaps identify which part of ireland he comes from?

Thank you

  • Are you certain about the date of the marriage of Percy & Delia ?

FamilySearch has a marriage (transcript & image) of a Percy J. Johnson & Delia Ward in Boston on the 16th Sep 1897 , Percy's parents are recorded as John Johnson and Bridget Carney, unfortunately his place of birth is recorded as just 'Ireland'

Percy gives his age as 24 so born around 1873, so I had a look for possible births using his parents names and found several likely siblings all in Dublin city - e.g. Stephen Johnson born  27th December 1876. Place of birth is 37 Nicholas Street, Dublin city, parents John Johnson a shoe maker & Bridget Kearney (equivalent to Carney), the informant is father John using his mark. Shoemaker is also Percy's occupation on the marriage in Boston...

I suspect that Percy may not the name he was originally registered with - fairly unusual name here at the time...

  • There are several versions of that 1897 marriage on FamilySearch - including this one...most of the details are the the same but this one includes slightly more detailed places of birth for the couple - 'Dublin' Ireland for Percy,  and Birkenhead, England for Delia.
