In our village in the south of the Netherlands we celebrate/remember the 70th year of liberation of the south of the Nls by the Allied forces. Among those soldiers who did not survive is Anthony Flanagan born 1920 or 1919. He served under the name of F. Kelly in the 4th Btln of the Lincolnshire regiment.
He was killed on october 29,1944 and buried at our local graveyard next to our Catholic Church, Ulvenhout, Nieuw Ginnken, south of Breda city.
On a larger stone next to his grave (see picture) his name is mentioned again as well as his birthplace, Tuam, Eire. Query w. the Lincolnshire regiment archives mentions 1919 as his birth year, while on the stone 1920 is mentioned. He was 25 years.
He is all by himself among the locals. Canadian and Polish soldiers were buried together at special sites.
Is there any relative in Tuam who would appreciate to connect?
