Hi there, trying to identify today's location of what was know as the Carman's Inn on Vicar Street [Pigot's 1824 Directory]. The proprietor at the time was a William Kelly but by the time of Griffiths in 1855 there are no Kellys on this street and no mention of this Public House nor in later documents.

Can anyone help?

thanks

Peter

  • Hi Peter

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

My grandmother is 99 and lives in Tuam and used to work in the Courthouse. I will ask if she remembers any reference to the above and get back to you tomorrow

    Best wishes

  • Hi again Peter

My granny has no recollection of ever hearing any reference to that Inn on Vicar Street and it isn't listed in the Register of Licences for Tuam Petty Sessions in late 1800s/early 1900s. I have contacted the Old Tuam Society to see if they can shed any light on it and will let you know.

    All the best
