My Grandmother, Margaret Mary Connelly, immigrated to the United States in 1923. According to my records she was born in Ballyconry  on August 8th 1905 or 1906. She traveled to the the United States on the Baltic from Queenstown to New york, arriving in New York on Sept. 9th 1923. My Dad reports she had a sister named Hannah and her cousins were the Flavins. My Dad said that my Grandmother had traveled back to Ireland during her life to visit her family. I do not know who my Grandmother's family is? I do not know her father's name. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a link to the September 15, 1906 civil birth record.

You have to sign-in to see the record.

The father was Michael and the mother was Mary Flavin. There were living in Mweevoo townland in Ballyconry civil parish. I also found Maggie and her younger sister Josephine living with their grandmother Johanna Flavin in the 1911 census in Mweevoo.

  • This is my Grandmother!!! Thank you so much!!!  You shared some great information with me!  I understand from my cousin that Margaret's sister was born in Ballyconry on Sept. 11 1908.  Would it be possible to see her birth record as well?  Do you know of any living relatives there?

  • This is my grandmother as well.  Do you have any information about Michael Connelly, birth certificate, death certificate etc.  I understand he remarried after Chris and my great grandmother passed. We don't have any information about him.  Thanks!

Anything you can provide would be greatly appreciated..

Can't help with current relatives. Here is a link to the online Irish phone book which is a partial list of phone users. Use the Residential TAB https://www.eirphonebook.ie/   There is one Connelly near Listowel and a number of Flavins.

  • Christine/Jim:

I located the marriage record for Michael and Mary. From that record, you can see that Michael's father was Denis and he lived in Ballyouneen in Rattoo civil parish (the spelling on the marriage record was not accurate but I was able to get the correct spelling and location). I then found his birth record in 1884 in Ballyouneen.

I was not able to find a marriage or death record but I only looked in the Listowel registration district.

  • Roger,

Thanks for this information.  I understand Michael remarried after Mary passed away.  Is it possible for you to help with this?  This is very useful...

Here is the death record for Johanna in 1936

I'm currently working on about thirty different messages for parishes all over Ireland and we expect a lot of new messages this weekend because of St. Patrick's Day.

Can I suggest that you search www.irishgenealogy.ie for additional records. There are two different Tabs to search. Church records and civil records. The church records are for Kerry, part of Cork and Dublin city. The marriage may have occurred prior to civil registration starting in 1864. Civil records start in 1864 but currently images are only available for marriages starting in 1882 and deaths in 1891. Births start in 1864.

If you can't find the records, let me know and I will try to assist.

I used Google Maps and located Mweevoo although they changed the spelling to Meevoo. 1.7 kilometers from Ballyconry and not far from Ballybunion golf course.
