I am wondering if there is any way of knowing what became of the Thomas O'Brien & Eleanor Sheehy family who are listed as marrying on 1 March 1870 in Duagh Parish.  The records show he is from Scrahan.  They had the following children:

Simon O'Brien - 14 February 1871

John O'Brien - 21 July 1872

**William O'Brien - 10 May 1874

James O'Brien - 1 June 1876

Thomas O'Brien - 26 May 1878

Mary O'Brien - 10 April 1881

Cornelius O'Brien - 1 April 1883

Ellen O'Brien - 8 November 1885

I believe William O'Brien may be my great grandfather.  Our William O'Brien emmigrated to the US (date unknown) and became a Chicago policeman.  He left his family when my grandfather was young so we don't have much information to work with.

My husband and I are traveling to Ireland in October and would like to stop by this area if in fact we have the right O'Briens.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Michelle

I believe the family is in the 1901 Irish Census which you'll find at www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ Search for O'Brien Thomas Kerry Townland Scrahan DED Duagh

They are also in the 1911 census so they oviously died after that.

findmypastireland has lots of O'Brien death records from Kerry but none from Scrahan or Duagh so I ASSUMED they might have been buried in the neighbouring Listowel.

There is a death record for Eleanor & 2 for Thomas in Listowel - his are both 1916 and hers 1921

The records do not have place of burial however.

I'll try to get the administrator to pass on this query re Duagh burial records to the Kerry experts
