Hello,

I am trying to figure out if four siblings that I have as children for James Dunlevy and Julia Mahony are correct as I don't entirely comprehend the different information I've found on www.irishgenealogy.ie under the church and civil tabs.

I'll make this in a chart form for ease:

Opinions? Two different families with the same parent's names?  Also, I cannot locate the townland of Lacareagh anywhere in Killeentierna.

James Dunleavy does appear in the Griffith's Valuation for Bawnaglanna as well as the 1901 census.

  • IrishGenealogy shows there was also a John Dunlevy. I'd guess there were children born between John and Jeremiah as well. I hope this helps.

  • Hi again Patricia, Yes, I saw that record for Jeremiah....the civil record, it was the church record for him I couldn't locate. So, going forward, I believe all the townlands mentioned in the records are in the RC parish of Killeentierna, not Molahiff, correct? Thanks!

  • Catholic parishes and civil parishes were not the same. The church record has the Catholic parish; the birth record has the civil parish. So the two parish names would not match.

  • Wow! That is some detective work! I would never have found that....interesting that his name was changed from Denis to Jeremiah. I've seen Darby and Dermot for Jeremiah, but never Denis. The parents and DOB work, so that's good. I wonder about the address of Docane - perhaps a spelling error. Thanks again!
