  • Hi there,

Coukld you please post your message on the County Dublin page here: http://www.irelandxo.com/group/county-dublin

There are Roman Catholic church records available for the diocese of Askeaton. These date from 1829 for both baptismal and marriage records. You can find these at the National Library of Ireland, Pos. 2419, or www.familysearch.org If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance.

You could try the Limerick Archives for information: http://www.limerickcity.ie/archives/

Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864 however. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

You could also try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at. Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38). Microfilm copies of the books for all of Ireland are available at the National Archives of Ireland (NAI) http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/tithe-applotment-books-and-the-primary-griffith-valuation/ or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS).

You can information about the frequency of the name in the mid-19th century and any other variant spellings of the name here: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/

1816-28 Freeholders. Genealogical Office 623, LDS film 100224.

    1829 Freeholders Genealogical Office 623.

1838-48 Reproductive Loan Fund records. Administered from Limerick city, for all areas of the city and county. More than 5,000 names. UK National Archives T 91. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

1843 Voters. National Archives of Ireland OP 1843/66.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

  • Thanks for all the information on the different Web Sites.

I have enough info on the "McMahon's" when they came to Dublin

but I will post on the Dublin Site about my side the " O'Malley's " which I don't have very much info.   This really is a great website and gives such great info.     Thanks again.   Rita O'Malley McMahon

  • Hi Rita,

I am a great grandson of James McMahon and am therefore a second cousin of your husband. I would like to compare notes on the family genealogy if possible please? Am not sure how this facility works but hope that by virtue of this  message to you that you are given my email address and kindly make contact with me?

    Best wishes

  • Thanks Brian (second cousin)  for making contact and it was the correct McMahon's even if I had the wrong name for Michael's wife which should have been Eliza Raleigh and you also had her folks name which is terrific to get as far as Great Great Great Grandparents.  Looks like they all came from Limerick City at one stage and not this parish and then on to Tralee before this branch (William & John) in Dublin.
