My grandfather Philip Handrahan was born in Co. Tipperary in 1845 or 1846. This is on his Civil War discharge although he always said he was from Co. Clare. He was only 4 or 5 when the family, Richard and Anastacia Fogarty Handrahan came to Buffalo, N.Y. A fellow researcher has found a Richard born in 1812 in Carrick-on-Suir. That is when he was born according to the 1850 census of Buffalo. They came to New York in 1850 from Liverpool and Queenstown. The ship Brody lists him as a farmer, the census lists him as a mason. Both parents died in 1855 and the children are listed in a catholic orphanage. Edmund born Ireland, 1843, Philip born Ireland 1846 and John born N.Y. 1850.. Any information appreciated.
