  • Angela:

Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie  has an 1827 baptismal record for John and an 1831 record for William born to Arthur Bible and his wife Catherine. The records were not in the Callan RC or Church of Ireland records. Which denomination did your family belong to?

Roots is a pay site to view the transcription of the church record.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Many thanks for that. I will look at the record. I believe they were protestant. At least, I am pretty sure they were one of the Palatine families who left Germany as they were persecuted by the Roman Catholics. Thanks again.

  • Thank you for that. Arthur is my great-great-greatgrandfather. I believe the entry at Callan is for his death in 1866.

  • Hello Angela

I also have a Bible family in my ancestors. Elizabeth Bible born 1806 in Ballymodan, Cork County, presumed to the the daughter of Francis Bible and Elizabeth Worthington. I have no information on any siblings. I know that Cork is a fair way from Callan however, I also believe that the Bible family / families were Palatine immigrants to Ireland. So perhaps there was a connection of some sort. Anyway, here is my Bible connection.

Elizabeth Bible married William Thompson, presumably in Cork about 1824 - 1826. Two children are known to have been born in Ireland (Edward and John), after which the family emigrated to Hull township, Quebec. Canada.

Francis Bible was born about 1766 and died on Oct 1, 1834 in Dublin, Ireland (possibly in the North Dublin Union Workhouse). Although this individual has not been confirmed to the same 'Francis' as the father of Elizabeth, I have presumed he is (at least for now)

Elizabeth Worthington was born about 1772, married Francis Bible on Sept. 18, 1802 in the City of Cork. A death of an Elizabeth Bible occurred on April 23 1847 in Dublin (also possibly in the North Dublin Union Workhouse). Again, I have presumed this to be the mother of my Elizabeth Bible Thompson.

All the best in your search.

    Thelma
