 Martin Ryan and he was born 16 Apr 1882  in Muckalee to James Ryan and Johanna Kehoe. I got this from his birth registration. 

 

I found the 1901 census and 1911 census records for the family in Muckalee, Kilkenny and was thinking that I would find Martin in the records but he was not there 

 

 

I have learned since that at some point Martin was made a Christian Brother. So since he would have been 19 at the time of the 1901 census I was thinking that he was already out of his home and studying to be a brother. 

 

First question were students who were away from home studying listed in these 2 Irish Censuses?

 

Also

 

Do you have any idea where Martin may have been studying to become a Christian Brother? 

 

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Just an FYI

    I went to the National Archives  of Ireland website and with the help of Jane Halloran Ryan I  learned about different type of census forms, like form G for students (and there are more), In the end I searched for Martin and used his birth info and included his approx age at the time of the 1911 census as part of the search criteria. Then I waded through a bunch of records for a bunch of  Martin Ryans about the correct age and I found him in the 1911 census. I found Martin listed (in a form A census record) as a teacher in a school in Westport College County Mayo, a Christian Brothers School, named after Edmund Rice , the founder of the Christian Brothers.  

    The record gives the county of birth. See attached.

    I learned a lot through this exercise.
