John Moffat son of Michael and Ellen Hennessy was born c1855
In c1886 he married Mary Honors (1865-c1887) from Muckalee They had 1 child Ellen and it is possible that mother and child died at or shortly after childbirth
In c1888 he married Ellen Kegan from Ballyragget and their first child Ellen was born in Ballyragget Dec 17 1889 The Kegans lived on Main Street, Ballyragget
Shortly after the family emigrated to Warrington, Lancashire where in 1893 another child was born
I would welcome any information about any of the families listed above
Ellen Moffat's son was in the Royal Merchent Marines on the North Atlantic during WW2 and after married a Galway girl, my aunt. His brother Thomas is the sole surviving member of his geneartion and I would like him to know more of his Kilkenny roots

If you haven't already you might try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp for some of John's relatives.

If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for possible assistance.
Church of Ireland parish registers for the period up to 1870-are public records. Registers are available for about one third of the parishes, however many were destroyed in the Public Records Office in Dublin in 1922. Most are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. There is lots of useful information to be found in the 1901 and 1911 census records. You can find this here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ You might try looking for Moffat relatives in or around the Castlecomer area.
