My Great Grandfather was James VICKERS b.12 Dec. 1826 in Queens County (now Laios) he was the son of John VICKERS AKA James b. abt 1789 in Cork County, Killarney imm. Blackville, New-Brunswick CANADA in 1827

John Vickers was part of the pre-famine emigrants who left Ireland in search of a better life.

Came to Canada (Abt. 1827) as farmer to the village of Blackville New Brunswick, Northumberland county.

John or James Vicars (not sure of first name) came from Ireland a widower with sons. He married Ellen in New Brunswick. The sons that immigrantes with the father were John and James. John married Catherine Keenan, sister to Mary Ann Keenan who married Patrick Vickers. He married (1) Mary Whalen in Ireland b. C1790 in Ireland d. 1826-1836 in Ireland?. He married (2) Ellen Martin, married 1836 Aug 14 in Northumberland Co NB, b. C1806 in Ireland, immigrated 1823 in entered NB

Any informations to the later would be appreciated. i.e. parish, father, mother, sibblings etc., occupation, dwelings

    Unfortunately I haven't been able to learn more about the family 

    There are a couple of possibilities for baptisms for Mary Whelan on rootsireland.ie between 1780 and 1800 but I couldn't say which, if any, are relevant to your search. It might be a good idea to keep an eye on the Early Birth and Marriage Index. It is updated regularly and if your ancestor doesn't appear now, they may in the future. ​

  • I have Great-Great Grandparents - John Vickars (1822-1893) / Catherine Keenan Vickars (1826-1922).  

    I believe John to be born in Queens County, Ireland - but emigrated to Canada in 1829.  

    Among their children was Honora Elizabeth Vickers (Nora) - who married Edward Buggie.  They resided in Blackville NB before moving to Minnesota.  These are my Great Grandparents.

    One of Honora and Edward's children was Winifred Buggie - who married Martin standing.  These are my grandparents.  One of their children is Kathleen Standing - who married my father Kenneth Melin.

    Any matches??
