Hello from the USA!
My grandmother Marie Anne Kelly was born 1893 in Seskin North, parents William Kelly (b. 1861) and Mary Dalton (b. 1868). She had 2 older brothers William (b. 1888) and Thomas (b. 1890). William Kelly Sr. died 1896 aged 35. That same year, my grandmother was sent to Norristown Pennsylvania to live with her paternal aunt Mary Kelly Grady. The family legend has it that she had a club foot and was sent to America to have it straightened non-operatively. Marie was raised by the Gradys and never returned to Ireland.

It seems that her mother Mary Dalton Kelly married again, a young widow with 2 small boys. She and Michael Dwyer and had 4 more daughters: Anastatia (1899), Mary Brigid (1902), Jane (1905) and Cathleen (1907). Mary Dalton Kelly Dwyer died in 1910; the death is registered in Urlingford. We don't know where she is buried.

My great uncle William Kelly died in 1967. His brother Thomas emigrated to New Zealand after WW1. We don't know if either of them ever married.

The real mystery is: can anyone tell me whatever happened to the 4 girls who would have been my great aunts?

Kind regards and thank you for any help.

Mary

  • Hello again Mary!

As I mentioned in my response to your Galway message, we currently can't get an images of records. Hopefully the problem will be fixed Monday. We can access index records and I see a June 1923 marriage for an Anastasia Dwyer to a Patrick Butler in the Abbeyleix registration district.

I don't see a marriage index record for the other three girls. I also don't see a civil death index record. The death index records end around 1958 so if they did not marry, they could have lived beyond 1958. They also could have emigrated.

  • Mary:

Site is working now. You will have to sign-in to see the record. Anastasia's father is listed as Michael so this may be for your relation.
