  • Hi conjure:

If you have any information about Samuel Odlum, an Ancestor profile would be great to have created.  You can do so here:  https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy

    Kind regards,

    Jane

  • Odlum name is associated with Odlums'  Flour Mills in Portarlington, Co. Laois. It was/is a modern factory mill from at least the 1930's. The owner/manager (It was a Limited Corporation- LTD) of the plant about 1950was Algie (Algernon ?) Odlum who lived in Portarlington with his family. I do not know what connection (IF any) with your Rathdowney family.

I hope the info below will help you find your relatives. The Loftus Odlum referred to may be a son or grandson of Algie.

RCB LIBRARY - Church of Ireland Archive Parish Number: P.0022 Records of the Parish of: Portarlington (Kildare) Period: 1808 - 2004 County of: Laois From: Local parish custody 1964; 2001, 2018 Notes: The registers of the French church were published as T.P. Le Fanu (ed.), "Registers of the French Church of Portarlington, Ireland" (Huguenot Society of London, 1908) A short history was published as J.S. Powell, St Paul's Church, Portarlington, "The French Church" (Portarlington, 1996) From 1887, St Michael's church and St Paul's church were united following a diocesan synod resolution passed in 1873, and the parish became known as Portarlington Union. Many of the accounts in this collection were transferred by the son of Loftus Odlum, in 2018. He was a long time Hon. Treas. Of Portarlington Union
