I am a descendant of Margaret E Gallogly who married James J Kiernan at Aughavas on 10 FEB 1873. 

Margaret Gallogly was born around 1847 in Ireland to Patrick Gallogly and Catherine Masterson. I have that she was baptised in Ardagh Diocese in Sept of 1847. A Patrick Lee was listed as a sponsor at the baptism and also a witness at the wedding. Rose Reilly was the other sponsor listed at the baptism.

James J Kiernan was also born around 1847 not sure if that was also in Leitrim. His father is I think John Kiernan but I don't know his mothers name.

 James and Margaret had a daughter Mary J born in 1874, then their second daughter, my great grandmother, Catherine Kiernan was actually born in Edinbourgh Scotland in 1880 but her next younger sister Margaret (called Peggy) was born back in Ireland around 1881. Then they had a son James Joseph who was also born in Ireland in 1884 right before the immigrated to the US. In the US they had 3 more children.

There may have been another child born between Mary J and Catherine but I don't have a name. Margaret wrote on a census that she had 9 children 8 of which survived but I only have 7 names.

  • Hi again Col,

    I thought I had sent this message but it turns out I didn't. This is awesome. Thomas is the child I did not have any records for. After you gave me the info I checked online sources familysearch and Ancestry but I haven't found any record of him in the US. I wonder if something happened to him? He would have been only 7 or 8 when they left for the US so he would have gone with them. Well at least now I know the name of the child I was missing.
