My great-great grandfather James Flynn was born in 1803 in Glenfarne, Co.Leitrim. He had a son Thomas born about 1850. Thomas married Bridget Murray and they had four sons: James, Michael, John and Thomas. They lived  in Glenfarne. The first three immigrated to Fitchburg, Massachusetts, USA in the early 1900s. Thomas lived and died in Leitrim. Please can you help me find any information About them? Thank you, Kathleen FlynnTP

    Kathleen:

Above are the links to the 1901 and 1911 census records. The family lived in Loughros townland in Cloonclare civil parish. Looks like James was born later than 1803. I will look for the marriage and death index records.

I found a good possibility for the death record for James (see below). The year of birth alleged is very close to the age 87 in the 1911 census. If youa re interested, you can get a copy of this record from the GRO for around 4 euros. let me know and I can forward instructions.

Any possibility that Bridget's (Biddy) maiden name was McMorrow rather than Murray? I see an 1875 marriage between a Bridget McMorrow and a Thomas Flynn in the Manorhamilton district.

  • Roger,

I think you are correct. My great-grand father Thomas Flynn was born in 1822. When I saw the census link, it looked like he was listed as 86 years old and not 95. Also, my great-grandmother's maiden name could have been McMurrow not Murray. You said you could tell me how to get a copy of their wedding certificate. Please, I would love to get one. Thank you for all your help....I am curious about the Michael Flynn and Bryan Flynn listed on the same census and if they were related. My Grandfather James is listed with his brothers John and Thomas but their brother Michael  isn't ....thank you for any help you can give me.

Here are the GRO instructions. I will look at your other question.

    Roger

Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event. registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.

  • Thank you, Roger for your help. I have sent for photocopies of my great grandfather Thomas' birth, marriage and death. Rectification. I am beginning to think that my great grandmother was not Bridget McMorrow because it lists her husband as John

My great grandfather Thomas, had a fourth son   Michael born 1880 but, he is not listed on the 1911 census  as part of the family, however their was a Michael  Flynn and a Bryan  Flynn on that same census living at Manorhamilton....I was wondering I what their ages were and if they were related....any info that you could give me would be great. I would also like to know who my great great grandfather James Flynn 's wife's name. He was listed as a widower on the 1901 census. Thank you, again. I am so pleased to be finding out about my family from Ireland....Kathleen

I'm responding to your questions from the other day regarding Bryan and Michael Flynn listed in Loughros in the 1901 census. I can only guess that Bryan was a brother to James, The Cloonclare RC records don't start until around 1840. Bryan is listed in the Griffiths in Loughros.

Regarding the 55 year old Michael, I went to Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie and searched in the Cloonclare RC records. There is a 1845 baptismal record for a Michael Flynn born to a James and the mother was  Anne. I could not go any further without paying  money to see the transcription. Possibly this Michael was another son of James and Anne was the name of James' wife.

I look at the more recent questions and get back to you.

No luck finding the 1880 Michael. The one Michael Flynn in Manorhamilton was an infant.

I looked for Anne Flynn civil death index records in the Manorhamilton district and found three possible records. You could contact the GRO give them the info for the 3 records and ask for the record for the one from Loughros.
