My last ancestor born in Ireland left some time in the early 1730s.  He shows up in a marriage record in Philadelphia in 1734 as Thady 'Rorke' (presumably O'Rourke).  My DNA results along with analysis from Irish Origenes indicates my line of O'Rourkes were centered around Kiltyclogher.

The question is if this Thady was the son of the Bishop Thady O'Rourke who lived at this same time.  I'm looking for any evidence that Bishop Thady O'Rourke had a son called Thady.  I'm also looking for any O'Rourkes from this parish who would be willing to submit their DNA for analysis to see how we compare.

Thanks!

  • Hi-

    You might try

for local histories and other information regarding records & resources in Co Leitrim.

The reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 ? particularly in rural areas ? is that they simply may not exist. Some registers for urban areas pre-dating 1800 may exist ? though often these can be fragmented- as there was an increased need in cities or larger towns to document the population.

You might try contacting: http://www.leitrimroots.com/ (there may be a fee involved).
