McLaughlin and Flynn

A very useful website for help researching your family tree is the http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor

Here they allow you to search for a surname, the results returned allow you to see how many households had a particular surname in the mid-19th century in Ireland. It also shows you what counties the households were in. However to see specific parishes there is a small fee. Leitrim was listed as one of the counties which had both Flynns and McLoughlins in the same parish between 1848-1864. To see the results of the search follow this link:

You could also check church records. As you know that Catherine was from Mohill, you may be able to find her baptismal cert. Perhaps you could also check if there is a baptismal cert for Patrick in these records also? Most Catholic records are held locally, however the irishtimes websites gives an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Mohill Parish follow this link:

You could also do a search for Patirck's parents in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. However, it may be difficult to confirm which results are relevant to you if there are multiple results returned. There are two:

The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

and Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/  

It may also be a good idea to look into Patrick's emigration? Do you know much about it? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure, so this may be a place to find more information-and perhaps even an exact place of origin. For immigration records in the US check the National Archives at http://www.archives.gov/

It is most likely that he arrived at New York, so he probably was processed at Castlegarden. You can search their database here:

John McLoughlin of Rossbegg, Co Leitrim

Edmond Flynn rented the lands of Kilnagain to JOhn McLoughlin for the space of 24 years commencing 12 May 1795

Probably totally coincidentally ....my grandfather Charles Flynn who lived in Kiltybardan ( outside Ballinamore near Aughnasheelin Church ) was married to a Rose Mc Loughlin ..... both are buried in Aughnasheelin graveyard in an unmarked grave with their daughter Kate who died of TB as a young woman. My mother ( Margaret Rose) spoke of some of her relations being school teachers in Derrinkeher National School. She also spoke of cousins in Drumshambo but Inhave not so far been able to trace any of them. I currently live in Enniskillen. Any leads appreciated. ...Jim Quinn

was Michael Flynn.      his father  Patrick Flynn , they were farmers.           all from Durmshanbo
