Hello, I am trying to find where Nathaniel Evans came from. He is in our family tree as settleing in Doneraile co Cork in the late 1600's,to early 1700's  we believe he was born about 1680 to 1690.

I have found several records from Abstract of Deeds where a Nathaniel Evans was witness to many different Deeds, often the deeds involved a George Evans. The deeds show Nathaniel Evans, gent  from Castleroberts co Limerick, Carassy co Limerick, Griston co Limerick and Ballywilliam co Catherlough. I don't know if all of these are the same Nathaniel Evans. Burkes Landed Gentry under the Evans of Carker show Nathaniel Evans as the first settler in Doneraile stating he is formerly of Griston and Castleroberts.

We have been unable to find any information of his parents or wife, he had a son Nathaniel Evans born abt 1715.

Thank you so much for looking at this, I hope you may be able to give me a lead on this part of my family.

Regards

Sue Westropp-Evans

  • Hi Sue,

The records on www.rootsireland.ie/ only start at 1720 I think

I checked anyway and found a Nathaniel Evans (they have it as Eavans) with father Nathaniel born 1732 in Cork

I'm not sure whether this is any use given that it's much later than 1715

rootsireland charge to view records and there is no guarantee the mother's name will be on the record

The Fraser tree on ancestry has his birth-place as Griston & Castle Roberts, Limerick

IGI has a Nathaniel Evans with father born 1716 in Shropshire.

It's not much consolation but you have done really well to get back as far as you have given the lack of Irish records
