Hello. My name is Christopher Sheehan and I live in the state of Idaho in the United States. I am attempting to track down my family and it has led me to Askeaton, Limerick  I am trying to find the father of John James Sheehan who was born in 1795 in Cork and died in 1850 in England. The information that I have found is that his father's name was Sean or John Sheehan and he was born and died in Limerick, possibly Askeaton.

Please help.

Thank you.

  • Christopher:

In addition to the leads from Col, I would search www.irishgenealogy.ie which is a free Irish government site which has RC church records from the Diocese of Cork and Ross. Search John Sheehan 1790-1800 and you will get a number of records including at least three John Sheehan baptisms with a father named John. You would need his mothers name to determine if you have the correct record.

  • Thank you guys so much for the help.

    ColCaff,

I have been trying to track down information in Rathcormic on William Sheehan and I am having trouble finding information. Do you have any information where William Sheehan died and is buried? It looks like his son may have moved to England and died there. Thank you again or the assistance and any help will be greatly appreciated

    Cheers,

    Chris Sheehan

  • Hi Chris

I looked on www.rootsireland.ie/ for death/burial records for Wm but there are none in Rathcormac.

Do you have a birth year - I could find any that match his age among the records.

I found a birth in 1776 so this is the only death record which is close:

    Name: William Sheahan

    Date of Death: 10-Mar-1839

    Age: 67

    Parish / District: ST. JOHN'S

    Address: County: Co. Limerick

    Status:

    Denomination: Roman Catholic

    Occupation:

    Sex: Male

    Colcoff,

I do not have a birth year. From what I have found, his son should have been John James Sheehan who was born in 1795 and died around 1850 in England. John James, however, was born in Limerick. The only information that I could find on his father was what you found previously about the baptism in 1796 for John Sheehan in Rathcormic. The birth that you found in 1776 would make sense for the age of John James Sheehan.

    Talk to you soon,

    Chris Sheehan

  • HI THERE ..... I am a descendant of a John SHEEHAN who was born about 1790 and I am assuming he was born in Mitchelstown Cork ... as he married Mary SULLIVAN there .. and had the following children :   Maurice; Eliza; Elizabeth; Patrick (my ancestor);  Hanora;  Mary; John;  Peter; Margaret; Thomas; James; Annie

(they are the ones I know about ... there could be others)....

John and the family lived in the town in Georges Street, .. I have been told that he would not have been a farmer if he lived in the town .. but I don't know what he 'did' for a living.

The children all came to Australia ... but John and Mary Sheehan remained in Georges Street, Mitchelstown Cork ... The parish church they belonged to was most likely the Church of Our Lady Conceived without sin ....   I haven't been able to find any more information for this family ... but if anyone is able to over there .. I would greatly appreciate it.   I would love to know who their ancestors were.

My email address is aussie_femme@hotmail.com  if anyone can help .. thanks so much ..

    regards

    Maree L.
