Seeking descendants of George Powell of Ballylanders, born c.1795, married Harriet Walpole.

I am descended from George's son - also George, born c.1829 - who married Bridget Sheehan and emigrated to Australia in 1855.

  • Andrew, my gggreat-grandmother was Julia Sheehan from Ballylanders, who was born in 1834. I wonder if she and Bridget may have been sisters, or at least cousins. Unfortunately, I have not yet found information about Julia's immediate family, so I don't know for sure. She married John William Long and they came to America in the 1880's.

  • Hi Andrew,

We are decedents from Bridget and George Powell living in Australia.
George and Bridget are my Great Great Grandparents. There are many Powell dependents living in Australia. Our family branch is very motivated to learn more about our family history.
    Where are you located?

    Many thanks Ryan Grant.

I'm descended from Giles Powell and Julia English - immigrants to America from Ballylanders. Would love to get in touch with and/or meet anyone still in Ballylanders related to this family. I will be traveling through Limerick in two weeks.

  • Hi Katherine, I'm afraid I don't have any connections to pass on to you in Ballylanders. My direct line of Powells seems to have died out in Ballylanders, and we haven't been able to establish a connection to the better-documented Powell families of the county. I hope you enjoy your trip back to Limerick.

  • Hi Ryan,

We are descendants of George Powell and Bridget Sheehan (who are buried at Sheep Hills, from Ballylanders).

I am living with my family in Melbourne. My Dad is keen to learn more. Hoping you read this message as I can see you reached out 8 years ago!

    Cheers,

    Brett
