  • Hi Laura,

My name is Maurice Lyons from Bruff.  I have shared your request on Bruff Community Page Facebook and hope that this may generate some inforrmation.  I note you are staying at the wonderful Old Bank and will be pleased to meet you to see if I can offer any assistance in your search.  Maybe you could please let me know what research you have already completed. Do you have any local address as the postal area of Bruff is relatively large?

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Clare,

We had an amazing trip to Ireland last month. We had the priveledge of meeting Father Daly and Father Costello at St. Peter & Paul's Church in Bruff. With their help, we were able to locate the siblings of my ancestor Denis Slattery (born 1809) through baptism records. We were unable to find the marriage records for his parents. Father Daly suggested the marriage records may be at Hosptial Parish. Could you help me track those records?

I am looking for anything/everything on Robert Slattery and Ellen Hayes, possibly at the Roman Catholic Parish of Hospital. Their first child, John Slattery was baptised in 1808 in Bruff Parish, so I imagine their marriage was not long before that date.

    Gratefully yours,

    Laura Woods

  • Hi Laura

I am delighted that you had a good trip - you have cheered up a rainy Galway evening!

Unfortunately marriage records for the parish of Hospital do not begin until February 1812 so if Robert and Ellen were married in that parish before that time, there will be no church record of that marriage. Baptisms begin a little earlier in January 1810. I couldn't find anything online in Co. Limerick but you could, if you wanted, go through the NLI marriages for the period for any other neighbouring parishes HERE

As a very long shot, you could also cast an eye on the Early Birth and Marriage Index. It is updated regularly and if your ancestor doesn't appear now, they may in the future.

    Best wishes
