Has anybody any info. on Daniel Sheehan or Sheahan who lived in Castletown Congers. He was married to Mary Fitzgerald. His son Daniel born about 1852 in Castletown Congers is in Scotland in 1881 and married there in 1887. On this Daniel's marriage certificate he lists his father as Daniel Sheahan, farmer, deceased, mother Mary Fitzgerald not entered as deceased in 1887. I have found a Daniel Sheehan in the Griffiths Valuation Rolls in Castletown Congers but i have no dates to go on apart from Daniel juniors birth year. Would be gratefull for any help.

Pete.

  • Hi Pete

Here is a birth record for Daniel jnr which shows mother as Sarah; it's the only record with mother Fitzgerald

Limerick Denomination: Roman Catholic Father: Daniel Sheehan Mother: Sarah Fitzgerald Occupation: Sponsor 1 / Informant 1: James Fitzgearld Sponsor 2 / Informant 2: Sarah Bolman

Here's the marraige record but it doesn't have his age or father's name of course!!

Date of Marriage: 10-Aug-1843 Parish / District: BALLYAGRAN County: Co. Limerick Husband Wife Name: Daniel Sheahan Sarah Fitzgerald Address: Denomination: Roman Catholic Roman Catholic Occupation: Age: Status: Husband's Father Wife's Father Name: Sheahan Fitzgerald

    I couldn't find a birth/baptism for a Daniel in Ballagran I'm afraid.

  • Hi Col.  I did reply some days ago but can't see the reply here so i will reply again in case. Thanks for the info. you sent and as i am from Leicestershire England i am trying to understand the Limerick geography.  I have now researched some more and see that Ballyagran is indeeed in the right area of Castletown where my Sheehans lived at this time. Don't understand the different name of his wife as Sarah against the name on Daniels marriage certificate as Mary so i will have to look into that. Could be a difference Daniel Sheehan of course as my Daniel is Sheahan not Sheehan.  Thanks again for your info. Where did you find the info. by the way?    All the best to you.  Pete.

  • Hi Pete

    Good to hear from you.

My source is www.rootsireland.ie/ which is a subscription site.

Bear in mind that there were illiteracy and transcription inaccuracies which can account for name and spelling variations as well as personal whims. Also R C records will be freely accessible online in your summer (my winter - I'm in Oz). Good to see you Poms get a pasting in the cricket!
