Looking for any information on Thomas O'Donnell b abt 1819.  He married Johanna Hayes b abt 1820.  They had at least 2 children born in Galbally - Ellen b 1837 and Simon b 1839.

The family may have moved to England sometime prior to 1850

  • Hello Annette,

I went to www.rootsireland.ie and searched for and found the birth record for Ellen .

Ellen O Donnell, father Thomas, mother Johanna Hayes, baptised 1836 Co Limerick.  I went to the Limerick homepage and searched for the parish.  She was born in Galbally and Aherlow RC.  this is on the border of Tipperary and LImerick.  It is considered a Co. Tipperary town but the parish churches don't follow civil boundaries.

I found the marriage record for Thomas o Donnell and Johanna Hayes in the same parish in 1831.

You will have to pay about €5 to view and print off the record but you will probably find out the names of their parents so it woulod be worth it.  You could go to www.askaboutireland.ie and search the Grifith Valuation to see if they were farmers or such.

    Hope this helps,

    Anne Dennehy

  • Thank you so much Anne,  I am from Australia and ashamed to admit that my knowledge of Ireland is poor so I had no idea where to start searching for the Irish ancestors in my tree (there are a few of them). I was only holding onto a faint hope that a record could be found so again, thank you.

    Regards,

    Annette

  • Hi Annette,

glad to be able to help.  I'd like to correct one point if I may.  I have always considered Galbally as a Co. tipperary town as it is just on the border, however my husband informs me that it is actually in Co. Limerick.  Sorry for that.
