Connecting back from Australia

Welcome to Irelandxo in Kilbehenny.

Have you looked at the historicgraves website where the Kilbehenny graves have been photographed and transcribed.

There are several Slattery families in this area and since Kilbehenny is on the border to Tipperary they may have been born or baptised on the Kilbehenny side while growing up in Tipperary.

It would be useful to know what are the family names that were passed down through the generations as that could help in making connections here.

Kilbehenny and I think Galbally are in  the diocese of Cashel and Emly.  Tipperary Family History Research has the records of the diocese and are the most likely place to find a result.

Yes, I've looked at all of the above and lots more by following many links from Irelandxo. It's a bit daunting to realise that there were 270 Slattery families in Tipperary, 101 in Limerick and 91 in Clare in 1851-52.  So many seemed to come to Australia too, often at an early age and apparently unaccompanied. 

The only common names are Patrick, John, Anne and Mary Ann. Even the Anne may not be from the Slattery side as my great grandmother was Anastasia, or Annie for short.  Just looking at census results reveal that Mary was probably the most popular name in all of Ireland.

Your mention of Galbally is interesting. Look out Wiki - more searching !

There are so many terms - townlands, parishes both civil and religious, baronies and dioceses - which have to be understood and applied to the search too. Makes life interesting.

I'll have to save up to try Tipperary Family History Research, especially as it's the searching which is paid for, not the result.
