Hello All,

I have the baptism of an Anthony Barrett from the 1840's but the townland given is Tip/p. Can anyone inform me where this townland is/was? I have checked the Griffiths Valuation (about 20 years later) and can find no reference to it.

Best regards.

  • Hi Kev,

If you give me the exact year of the baptism I'll check it on rootsireland.

    There are 4 Anthony Barretts born in the 1840's in Mayo 2 X 1843, 1845 & 1846.

  • Thanks but I have the baptism........I need the location of the townland. I can't find it anywhere.

I know someone in a historical society up in Mayo and perhaps I can ask them but on maps c. 1850 I cant see it anywhere.

    Thanks.

  • I forgot to mention that when I checked one of the 1843 baptisms there was no Tipp in the list of parishes so if you give me the year I can check to see what parish name rootsireland has for the baptism.

  • Hi again Kev,

Tipp is in Belmullett & all of those Anthony Barrett baptismal records were registered in Belmullett RC parish.

  • Thanks,

Here is a baptism for one of Anthony's children -

Rose 1866 baptism from Kilmore Erris, Co Mayo, Ireland. Rose was baptised on the 14th June 1866 daughter of Anthony Barrett and Honor Dixon. Sponsors were Michael Barrett & Mary Kilker addss. recorded as Tip.

Anthony's parents were Michael Barrett and Mary Lavell? This comes from Anthony's death cert.

I have much on Anthony incl. obituary but I really want to find the townland of Tipp......which towland its adjacent too etc.

    Many thanks.
