Can you provide more specifics on when Mary and Robert came to America? Parents names? Did they marry in Ireland or America?

I looked at the 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Kilcornan civil parish. There was a William Croft listed in Blossomhill townland and a Henry Sidley listed in two townlands: Castlegrey and Summerville. Could be the same person with two plots of land.

  • Robert Sidley b 1788-d1867, married Margaret croft in limerick. Had 5 known children all born in Ireland between 1819-1834, so they came to US assuming sometime after 1834. I have Roberts parents listed as John and Mary Dugan. Having sons Robert and William. There is some question as to the spelling of Sidley,,(zidley) and a belief that John may have been born in holland.

    thanks so much

I went on Roots Ireland  www.rootsireland.ie  and there is an 1826 baptismal record for a Sidley child born to Robert Sidley and a woman named Margaret. Croft does not work.Actually, I could not get any letter to work so I'm wondering if the surname is blank. Without knowing the first name of the child, I can't determine the parish where the records are held.

Roots is a pay site to view the transcription of a church record.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • A big thank you! The childrens names were James R 1819, John W 1824, William R 1825, Mary 1831, and Patrick T 1834, so maybe it was William. I really appreciate your help, I have just restarted my research as I have recently became unemployed and have the time, ( hesitate in paying for a membership) just trying to pinpoint a town and maybe go back even further..thank you! Btw are you a descendant of Sidleys?

    thanks bonnie

Not a Sidley descendant. I'm one of the volunteers who monitors the Ireland Reaching Out message board.
