I am a descendant of John Dillon and Ellen Cussen living in Ontario, Canada.

I am looking to find out some information about John Dillane (1808) and Ellen Cussen (1808). They married in 1840. They had 5 kids, Ellen, William, Mary, Michael and Johanna. They emigrated to Canada (no date) to establish in the south in Hibbert Township, Ontario, Canada.

John's father would be Thomas Dillon born in 1790 and died in 1879 (Not positive if I have the right name)

John's mother would be Cecilia Doyle born in 1817. (Not Positive if I have the right name)

Ellen Cussen, her parents are

Michael Cussen (1788) and

Juditha Ryan (1788) they married in 1808 in New Castle, Limerick, Ireland.

  • RootsIreland gives two baptismal records for children of John Dillane and Ellen “Cussen”.  Both were baptized in the RC parish of Killeedy in Co. Limerick.

    At the time of Griffith’s Valuation of Limerick in 1851, there were two heads of household named Michael Cussen living in Killeedy, one in the townland of Banemore, the other in the townland of Coolaleen. There were many Dillane/Dillon/etc. listed in Griffith’s.

  • The name Cussen/Cussin is has been in the area of Newcastle/Rathkeale for the last 300 years and there is a Michael Cussen a solicitor living in Newcastlewest who is into family relations for many years.
