My gg grandfather Richard Joseph Sullivan is listed as going to New Zealand. No date on arrival. When he married my gg grandmother he was listed as 29yrs. This made him born in 1846, in Cork, and she, Mary Ellen Shanahan born 1852. Mary is listed as being born in Limerick, Kilmarnock (?spelling here). They came to Australia on or around 1892, 2 more children born after this. Richard later return to New Zealand where he died in Timaru. Family story is that he was married prior to marrying Mary and on his death cert it is listed that he was married to a Catherine Brunstan (?? spelling). I have notbeen able to locate his or her birth place in Ireland.

  • Hi

I reckon that Kilmarnock could well be Killmallock County Limerick for your Mary Ellen Shanahan.

As with the previous reply there are so many Sullivans and O'Sullivans, we will look up our records

and will contact you if we find anything.   Good luck with your search
