You mention having the 1877 marriage license for Michael and Hannah. Is that the church record or civil? The civil record (see index record below) will show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where the bride and groom were living in 1877.

You can get a copy of the civil record from the General Register Office for around 4 euros.

  • Civil Marriage License.  Michael Hehir age 19-bachelor-labourer-Careys Road-  father James Hehir-laborer and Hannah Doran age 18-spinster-North Strand, father Michael Doran-fisherman-I've found numerous Doran's in Limerick that were Shannon fisherman, but none with a daughter Hannah or similar name born on or around 1859.  Michael signed license with an "X", but Hannah signed her name leading me tho believe she had some education.  I also have civil birth records for sons Michael (Mick) Hehir dob;8 Feb 1878 Strand, Limerick indicating Hanna Hehir, formerly Doran as mother & Mick Hehir, labourer as father. Biddy Doran as attendant at birth, assume this is her mother, Bridget Farrell Doran. Second child Stephen Hehir dob; 26 Dec 1879-father Mick Hehir-labourer-mother Hanna Hehir formerly Doran-also have copies of original ledger sheets indicating births in addition to small pox vaccination ledgers for both children.  Michael Ohara (Hehir) arrived in New York 16 April 1881 on the ship "Erin."  Hannah followed about 1883 with two children, Stephen & James.  Unable to locate any information on James birth other than his death certificate issued in New York and the interment list from Calvary Cemetery where Michael, Hannah, Stephen & James are interred.  James dod;March 1886 New York and birth Nov 1881, Ireland.  Unable to locate ship's arrival of Hannah, Stephen & James in New York.  1900 US Census indicates their arrival 1883.  This census indicates there were twelve children.  I can account for ten leaving me to believe that possibly there were twins still born in Ireland after they were married.  Also that Mick dob; 1878 died in Limerick as there is no verification after the small pox vaccination or arrival/burial in New York  Found no death for him in Limerick.  Thanks for your help.....Bill O'Hara

  • I have since located the Baptismal Record at NLI.ie for Hannah Doran & it indicates that on "15 September 1859, St Munchin's, the Rev John W. O'Sullivan baptised Anne of Michael Doran and Bridget Farrell, Sponsors John and Anne Mullins". I have Hannah Doran death certificate that states that these were her parents.
