Sorry for the delayed response to your message. I checked the 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Rathkeale civil parish. There were two John Dohertys listed. One was in Ballyallinan North and the other in Ballyallinan South. Not sure which is your ancestor.

The RC church records for Rathkeale parish go back to 1811 with a couple of large gaps but they are continuous from 1831 on. They are available on Roots Ireland which is a subscription site.

Later this summer the National Library of Ireland plans to put all RC parish registers online for free searching. You could look at the Rathkeale records at that time.

Let me know if you have questions. Enjoy your trip to Ireland.

  • Thanks Roger

The Griffiths Valuation information is intersting but now I need to dig a little deeper to figure out if it is North or South Ballyallinan.

I did join rootsireland for a month to get some more information before we leave for Ireland.

Will try to look at the RC records also.

I may ask some questions when I try to navigate those records.
