Searching Michael Hayes, b1811 Limerick - Father Michael Hayes, mother Mary ?. Michael married Honora McInerney - Father Lawrence McInerney, mother Margaret ? possibly born 1780s-1790s. Found no further information regarding parish, location or occupation.

With two daughters, May or Mary b1830, and Ellen b1833, Michael & Honora left Limerick for Port Jackson NSW  aboard 'Adam Lodge', arriving 14 February 1840.

Michael & Honora are my gggg grandparents. Michael, Mary, Lawrence & Margaret gx5grandparents.

Ellen married my ggg grandfather Robert Whittaker at O'Connell Plains, Bathurst NSW, 1848.

Any information, leads or links gratefully received.

Thanking you,

  • Hi John,

You might want to have a look on www.rootsireland.ie/

There is a record of the baptism of Michael Hayes with father Michael & mother Mary in 1815 in Limerick

The parish was not Rathkeale however.

(I also had a look for your John McAuliffe there but there were 6 born 1800 + - 10 years in Limerick; do you have an age for him or year of birth?)

It costs several $ to view full records on rootsireland but the baptismal record would give you father's name (not sure of you get mother's surname) and the parish.

    I couldn't find a record of Honora McInerney's baptism/birth

The Tithe Applotments 1826-33 & free to search online have 430 Hayes in Limerick including 11 Michaels

  • G'day Col,

Thank you so much for contacting.

Following your suggestion I'll explore rootsireland & Tithe Applotments. Unfortunately I have no further details than those I have listed. I know it's a longshot to try to locate information but I'll give it a go & keep trying. You are very thoughtful trying to guide & assist as you have. I am indebted to you Col.

    Thanks again,

    John

  • thanks for the +ve feedback John - it made me have another think - mainly about the Whittakers but we'll get to them.

Hayes: I checked ancestry and there are a couple of public member trees which have Ann rather than Honora McInerney (but none has a father or mother for Michael!). They have Ann's father as Lawrence and her birth 1803 in Clare.  Regrettably, Clare's records aren't on rootsireland.

I checked rootsireland.ie for Michael's marriage but it only comes up if you don't put in a first name for McInerney at all. However, it's Michael Hayes marrying a McInerney in 1830 in Limerick; the parish is not Rathkeale.

McAuliffe: I checked ancestry trees and there are several (Maree A McAuliffe in particular) which have John born 1797 in Cork father Dennis; married Mary Hough 1839 in Yass and died 24 Nov 1884 in Tumburumba. Is this your man?

If so, I can't attach it on this site but can send to a normal email address from mine if you're Ok with that.
