Shanagolden RC records are available back to 1824, so not far enough to include the baptisms of Stephen and Margaret. The average starting date for rural RC records is about 1830, so anything before that is doing well.

You could search for other Mulcair and Power records in the same parish to see if they share godparents at baptisms, or witnesses at marriages, as these may be extended family. Mulcair is not a common surname and there are just a few others showing in Co. Limerick on the Tithe records, and these may be related to your Mulcair family at some point. The Tithes were a form of Land Taxation, and these records date from the late 1820s/early 1830s  - see : here

You state that John Mulchair Married Bridget Shier. The Sheir / Shire Name comes from The Paletinate Germany. Look up Palatine Museum Rathkeale Co limerick. Most of the Paletine in limerick, settled in Ballingrane, Rathkeale, Adare & Kilcornan Parishes. Look up Embury Heck Memorial Methodist Church Ballingrane. Regards John

I answered you last night, but my reply was deleted for some reason. I'll try again.

I checked Ancestry.com for your ancestors and found Bridget Shier in the Waugh Family Tree along with husband John Mulcare and their 14 children. I could find no further info in Ireland for either Bgt or John.

I suspected that the Sheir surname was German too - a Palatinate. The Waugh Family Tree has Shiers that lived in Rathkeale. You might want to check their tree to see if you recognize any of their info. It appears that the first Shiers came to Limerick in the early 1700's - to Rathkeale. I'm attaching family info on this family line. Please open the attached document.
