Dear all,

I am interested in finding out about the family of Helena Eileen O’Sullivan (aka: Eileen O’Sullivan) born in the 1990’s in Shanagolden.  Eileen married Bernard Alphonsus Collins at St Johns Cathedral, Limerick (Mar 1924) and remain resident in Limerick until the end of her life (Died in Jul-1981 and burial:  Mount St Lawrence Cemetery, Limerick).

I’ve been informed Eileen originally came from Shanagolden but cannot find any record of this fact.

If anyone can shed any light on Helena Eileen O’Sullivan earlier days in Shanagolden, I would love to hear from them.

Kind regards, Caroline Donovan

  • Caroline:

Is it possible that Eileen was born around 1904? See the 1911 census record below.

    Let me know.

  • Dear Roger
Thank you for your reply. Not sure. I had already seen this link and this would have made Eileen 19 years old when she married Bernard. Eileen is my grandmother and my mother informed me, she only had one sibling (a brother) and no sisters. Eileen was a much secreted person and never shared any information about her parents. All I know is that, Eileen had a cousin called Bridget O?Sullivan and she lived in Shanagolden, as well.
Once again, thank you for the information.

    Kind regards, Caroline

  • Here are also a couple marriage rcds from FamilySearch.org. The 1924 date is probably the one you want, but I wonder if she might have been married twice?

  • Dear John,

Thank you for your help. I’ve already found Helena’s burial plot in Mount St Lawrence Cemetery, Limerick (Lat: 151 & Long: E).  I’ve attached a record of the relevant documentation.

I’m trying to find out information about Helena before she had married in Mar-1924.

    Once again, thank you.

    Kind regards, Caroline

  • Dear Patti

Thank you for your help, much appreciated.  Here’re the facts and evidence I’ve already found relating to Helena Eileen O’Sullivan.  I cannot find any information before her married to Bernard but, my mother said, she came from a wealth family in Shanagolden.

    • Married once (Mar-1924) at St. Johns Cathedral, Limerick to Bernard Collins.
    • They had 5 children (3 girls & 2 boys).  Apart from two of the girls, the rest have pasted away.  Neither of the girls can shed any information on their mother or her parents.
    • Family home in 1950: 4 County View Terrace, Ballinacurra, Limerick.
    • 1963 moved into her daughter family home: Elm Park, Ennis Road, Limerick.
    • Around the 1976, Helena moved in the St Camillus Hospital (Limerick) due to illness until she died in Jul-1981.
    • Burial plot in Mount St Lawrence Cemetery, Limerick (Lat: 151 & Long: E)

I’m trying to find out ANY information about Helena before she had married in Mar-1924..ie: her birth or anything.

    Once again, thank you.

    Kind regards, Caroline

  • Helena Eileen O'Sullivan had a cousin called Kate O'Sullivan (aka: Kitty O'Sullivan) from Shanagolden. I believe I've found her cousin (Kitty) on the 1911 censes @ house 9 in Shanagolden Town (Shanid, Limerick). Her parents were Patrick Laurence & Margaret OSullivan (Aged: 40 in the 1911 census), Shopkeepers Publican. Address: house 37 & 9 in Shanagolden Town.

  • Caroline:

The census record you found is the same one that I gave you in my original message.

Do you have a copy of the civil marriage record from 1924? If not, you may want to get a copy since it will show her fathers name.
