My late grandmother was annie conry, lismoy, newtownforbes, co. longford as per her wedding certificate.  she was married in st. mary's catholic church, newtownforbes on 10th february, 1908 to john allen, lismoy, newtownforbes.  she was aged 23 years when she married.  her father's name was thomas conry deceased when annie got married.

on the census it said she was from co. roscommon.

any information would be appreciated.

  • There were four Annie Conrys in the 1901 census in Co. Roscommon. By process of elimination it appears the 16 year old in Castlerea would be your garndmother.

  • Thank you Roger.

I cannot understand how a 16year could be head of a house especially in 1901.

where would her parents be in relation to their children?

  • Nancy:

The census only captured who was living in a house on Sunday night March 31st 1901. Possibly her father Thomas was deceased in 1901 and if the mother was alive but not in the house the night of the census, her name would not be recorded. The oldest child would be listed as the head of household.

  • that explains it.  thank you, roger.

i notice that annie's address when she got married on 10 feb 1908 in newtownforbes was lismoy, newtownforbes.  the groom john allen was also from lismoy, newtownforbes, co. longford.

i also found a thomas conry, lismoy, estate agent to the mahons of strokestown and to the mccausland estate in county roscommon in the 1830's.  lands owned by thomas lee and gilbert conry were sold in the landed estates court in march 1861 to mr, trench.

    estate conry (cloonahee)

    woul therebe any connection?

  • Nancy:

Unlikely but possible. You would need to find more information on Thomas Conry (Father of Annie) and work backwards in time. Death and/or marriage record would help to start. You can check out www.familysearch.org and look for index records for births/marriages/deaths. If you get a possible lead, you would need to write to the GRO www.groireland.ie to get the record.

  • i have discovered that Raheen was on her marriage certificate.

i discovered that Thomas Conry, Raheen, was in the returns pf names of hundred largest ratepayers in County Roscommon. (printed image digitised by the Universiity of Southampton Library digitisation unit).

ANNIE CONROY'S MOTHER WAS LISTED AS MARY AND WHAT LOOKS LIKE DEIGHAN/DEEHAN

THERE IS A MARGARET DEEHAN/DEIGHAN, glenavoo on 1901 census.

i think and hope i am getting closer to tracing my granny, annie conry/conroy.
