My maternal 3x great grandfather is Bernard F. Lennon from County Louth, Parish of Dundalk, born c.1816 . He is married to Ellen Rice. She was born circa 1820. He has two brothers named Patrick and James. While I have learned much about him and his family in the United States, I have yet to find out when he emigrated to the U.S. or the names of his parents. My search on Ancestry, his obituary and burial information have provided no answers.  If anybody can help me learn more about him before he came to the United States, that would be great.  Thanks for taking the time to read this. I look forward to a reply.

  • Hi 1816

The only Lennon with Christian name Bernd assume Bernard is born in 1811 in Blind Gate, Ardee, father William and mother Mary McAnulty, probably now Nulty or McNulty. I found no ohter children born to them of suitable names,

I searched for Pat and James and there are a Pat and James born in Dundalk to the same parents, also Mary, no Bernard found but as the mothers name appears to have various spellings they are tricky to locate, address the same for all three.

Pat Lennan, baptised 22nd December 1819, Seatown, Dundalk, Mother Anne Kain father James Lennan, Sponsor Margaret King

James Lennan, baptised 23rd April 1823, Seatown, Dundalk, father James, mother Alice Kean, Sponsor John O'Here probably O'Hare and Judith McCree

Mary Lennan baptised 27th February 1822, Seatown, father James, mother Anne Cane. Sponsor 1 only is Mary Lennon.

As no Bernard found cannot assume these are your people, as you see though the mothers name is transcribed differently so without see the origonal difficult to pn down, however the surname I have dealt with previously and is often spelled in the different ways.

At this remove other records are probably not available if they ever existed so DNA may be your best choice.

    Regards

    Pat

  • Hi, I think my Lennon ancestors might be a fit!  My mother's grandmother was KATHERINE LORETTA LENNON born Sept 1870 in Albany, New York USA  Some of the info I've gotten from other's ancestry work but if this is a fit I can share more.  I have:

Bernard Lennon born abt. 1816 in Ireland married to "Ellen" which I later saw as Ellen Rice in County Louth.  Their children were Matthew born 1842, James born 1845, Bernard born 1847, John born 1848, Ellen born 1851, William born: 1853 and Thomas born 1855.

Matthew Lennon moved to New York and married Margaret Conway (born 1845 in Ireland and died 1912 in New York).  Their daughter was Katherine Lorretta Lennon who married Floyd Stanley Wilbur (early Dutch immigrants with original name of "Wilbore" and had one daugher: Katherine who married William Raleigh Miller.  I've only just started on this line but I noted there's a lot of info so let me know if we're researching the same people!
