I'm looking for anyone related to Rose McKeough. Rose was born Rose Quigley sometime between 1914 - 1922 in Dundalk, Louth, Ireland, married Peter McKeough and died about Dec 1974 in Ireland. She had 10 children: Patrick (died 26 Aug 1977), Margaret (married ? Murphy), twins Patricia and Philomena, Rose (married Mickey Mackin), Kathleen (married Fritz Stammers), Teresa, Peter (married Patrica Leonard 5 Jan 1972), Anthony and Martin. (Not necessarily in that order)

Teresa was married to a lawyer and took her mum on holiday to America October 1967 to visit at least 2 of Rose's surviving siblings in New York state.

Rose's parents were Patrick Quigley (1872 Dundalk - 1938 New York, USA) and Margaret (Maggie) McEntaggert (abt 1874 - 1924 Dundalk, Louth, Ireland). Their children (all born in Dundalk) were John Joseph (Jack) b 5 Apr 1899, Owen b 1900, Mary Anne (Molly) b 1902, Patrick b abt 1904, James b 01 Jul 1906, Margaret Mary (Peggy) b 03 Jun 1910, Gerard b abt 1911, Bridget b aft 1912, Thomas Joseph b abt 1916 and Rose b aft 1914 (probably abt 1918).

In 1924 the Quigley Family lived in Seatown Place, Dundalk where mother Maggie died at the age of 49. I believe Rose was the youngest and her family may not know much of there ancestry.

Rose and my grandmother Margaret Mary Quigley Stewart were sisters. My grandmother was sent to Australia in 1927. The majority of the rest of the family went to America.

Its Rose's family that I'm searching for contact with. I have family history and photos I would love to share with them

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Normally, we don't try to contact living individuals. You could look at the online Irish phone book for possible contacts. Make sure you use the Residential TAB. I did not see any McKeough records but there were Quigleys and Mackins. I will also check with someone to see if they have any suggestions for where you could post a notice possibly in a Dundalk newspaper.

  • Hello APM

you certainly appear to have all the information you need. I assume you have a copy of the death cert which can be seen here

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu… oddly hte Registar is McEnteggart, also I think the name McKeough may be more often spelled McGeough, at least I got more hits on it.

You may wish to try two local news papers in Dundalk , the Democrat and Argus, see http://www.dundalkdemocrat.ie/ and http://www.independent.ie/regionals/argus/ A letter to the editor may get printed and elicit a response.

We do not have a volunteer in the area so cannot say if family are still in Seatown, however the name is in the area.

I dealt with another Quigley query from outside Dundalk some months ago and will forward your link in case the person is interested, they were in Australia.

An interesting website about Louth is here http://www.jbhall.freeservers.com/

  • Thank you for all the replys.

I thought it was worth a try. If I put all the info I knew about Rose's family before they too disappear.

I'm sorry I don't know what "Make sure you use the Residential TAB" means. The Irish phonebook website will not open for me - it maybe a location thing - I've tried before but will keep trying. Thanks Roger

I was lucky to have been brought up by my grandmother and her stories of the Quigleys from around the world. She was the only member of her direct family to come to Australia so she kept what little she had from her family - pictures and some letters. I was recently given 2 letters from brothers in America that are each about 80 years old

I didn't know I could view Maggie Quigley's death certificate on line. I paid for a copy to be sent to Australia (it was the most expensive I've even paid for but I did want it). Unfortunately I'm from Victoria, Australia and our certificates have so much more info in them - I've been spoilt. Yes the McEnteggert Registrar was a surprise and on my list to check for any relationship too. I notice there was a McEnteggart death on the same page too - something else to check

The newspaper website addresses are fantastic I'll be checking them out very soon.

I know the family are no longer in Seatown place of the 10 siblings eventually only 2 girls remained in Ireland and the story is one of them sold the property and went to England with her family. That left Rose alone being brought up by someone else.

I will also check out the other website you suggested, Thank you Pat

Who knows Karen we may be related but my oldest Quigley I've been able to find is Owen Quigley probably born abt 1838, his 1st wife Mary Ann McCormack and 2nd wife Sarah Clarke. Owen and Mary Ann were Rose's grandparents. Not sure if I'm allowed to post my email address here for privacy reasons but would love to confere with you. I doubt we are distantly related there are a lot of Quigleys lol

Thanks again for all the replys I have a number of websites to check out I didn't have before

It may be because you are in Australia. If you happen to get through, you will get a search screen which is set up to search for Business entries. You need to hit the Residential TAB to get non-business records.

Thanks again to you both. You are both fabulous.
