Cannot locate any information post 1911 = John is my brick wall. I have newer data on the siblings, and both previous and subsequent generations' family tree information, but nothing on John.

  • Marjorie-Watters:

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

We have very few data sources post-1911. I did not see a civil death index record in the Dundalk registration district for John. There were civil marriage index records in 1919 and 1922. Possibly one of them was for your John. He may have emigrated.

  • The revaluation records for Mill St should go up to about 1929, and should be in the Valuation Office in Dublin.  They should record how long the Watters family stayed in Mill St.

Since you know that James Watters died in 1939, have you searched for a will for him, as that may list his children’s whereabouts? That should be in the National Archives in Dublin.

Also the informant on his death certificate may give you some information. (Based on the information you have given, his death may have been registered in Dundalk Jul – Sept 1939 Vol 2, page 387). You can order a photocopy of the certificate from GRO Roscommon for €4 (euros).  http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx

You have to download and print off the form. Then either post or fax it back to them. You can’t e-mail it to them. However if you want them to e-mail the cert to back to you, they will do that, so tick the relevant box.

  • Thank you both for your quick replies!

Roger McDonnell: Thank you. I have located the marriage records you mentioned and will follow up.

Elwyn: Thank you. I should mention that I am writing from Canada! Searching for a will and/or a death certificate would be ideal but these records are not all available online in digital format. I will follow up on the information you have provided.

    Thanks again! Much appreciated,
