My 3rd great-grandfather John Perry (or Parry) was only 17 when he was convicted at Dublin, on 20 November 1827, of stealing a tureen and sentenced to 7 years - but transported to Australia on the "Mangles". He lived in and around Port Macquarie, NSW for the rest of his life. He married Margaret Edith Ann Flanagan there and raised 16 children!

I do not know where he originated from in Ireland - his conviction details say only that his native place was "Louth".

It is said that his father, also John Perry, was a shoemaker, and that his mother's name was Catherine Mulholland. I do not know of any siblings.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance in locating the Perry/Mulholland family. I have a full ancestry.com subscription and have milked what I can from that. I have also searched through many, many other online resources, but to no avail.

Perhaps someone 'on the ground' can provide a new lead.

Kind regards,

  • Hi Again

the same sites would apply as on your query about Hall and Hale. I had a quick look at the JB Hall site and I see under freeholders in the early 1800s there are a number of Mulholland but not Perry/Parry.

There is a Mulholland person living nearby and if I see them I will enquire if anyone hass done a family history but do not hold your breath.

The site http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/ will allow you to seek the family names in the mid 1850s but is not wholly accurate for people living in cities where a number of families may live in the same building.
