Hi,

Looking for any info regarding Bartle Flynn/Flinn and Elizabeth/Betty McCone/McKeown/McKeone (and other various spellings).

I've found several records on rootsireland regarding the couple and 5 of their children:

The couple were married in Termonfeckin on 1/8/1829. Betty's address is listed as Sandpit.

Baptism records for the children are:

Cat (Catherine?) 2/7/1830 (address - Sandpit; sponsors - Lau McCone & Jane Flin)

Pk (Patrick?) 9/8/1832 (address - Belle View; sponsors - Lau Flinn & Mary McKeone)

Laurce (Laurence/Lawrence - my g.g.grandfather) 5/2/1834 (address - Corstown; sponsors - Laurce McKown & Mary Maguill). His death certificate lists his parents as Bartholemy Flinn and Betty McCone.

Jane 1/5/1839 (sponsors - Jas Campbell & Ellen McKeone)

Peter 14/4/1841 (sponsors - Jas McQuillin & Mary Fitzpatrick).

Was hoping someone out there might have more info on the family i.e. what happened to Bartle and Betty, who were their parents and/or siblings (assuming some of the children's sponsors are relatives) as well as anything on Lawrence's siblings.

Thanks muchly for any help!

  • Hi V

I am not familiar with the Termonfeckin families as I am the Drogheda volunteer but Termonfeckin is near by and they have a wondeful site at http://www.termonfeckinhistory.ie/index.html

I searched Bartle only and got a Bartle Flinne died in 1804 in one of the grave yards, this is probably the father or grandfather of your Bartle. The name McKeown is in the area and I will enquire when I meet some people I know from there but you could try leaving a message on the above site, as people leave email addresses I do not know how successful this will be, you could also contact the site organisers as there are contact details. Sandpit still exists there and is not overly developed population wise.

As you have discovered the spellings can vary so use different ones.

There is also sites in their links that may assist. Especially http://www.jbhall.freeservers.com/

Hope yo find something there and among the photos.

    Regards

  • I have a Jane Flin from galroostown married to James Finlay.  I have been trying to find her parents to no avail.  The name Bartle has come up in my searches.  I also have Allens from Sandpit.

  • Hi Vanilla,

I am directly related to Bartle's son Peter FLYNN/FLINN who married Jane LEE. My Grandmother was Bridget FLYNN.

If you can provide me with some additional information I will hopefully be able to help you further.

    Kind Regards,
