  • Hi Dan,

I searched for Felix and Mary but didn't have much luck.

I used rootsireland.ie but couldn't find their marriage or Felix's birth.

There was 1 record of a Mary Sheeran born 1815 in Meath.

I used the standard surname search and got Martin McMinnemy born 1814 in Derry.

I couldn't find any of the children's births either.

The McManamon public member tree on ancestry.com has Mary born 1839 James 1840 Katherine 1841 Felix 1843 Edward 1847 David 1849 John 1853 with the last 3 born in Canada.

    Have a great trip!

  • Hi Dan,

I'm not sure if you're aware of the Tithe Applotments and Griffiths Valuations but they are both free to search and have Mcmanamons (second m small).

On Griffiths they are all (14) in Mayo - 9 in Kilmeena, 4 in Achill and 1 Islandeady.  There are 8 Patricks, 3 Owens, 2 James & 1 Mary.

On the Tithes there are only 3: 2 Pats & 1 Fraser all in Mayo Parish Burrishoole Townland Shrafana.

I hope you get out to Achill - you will be touched that your ancestors lived in such a stunning place!

If you google the Irish phone book you will get eircom; search McManamon in residential and there are 48 & nearly all of  them are in Mayo.

It's too late to write to them before your trip but we have had success from people contacting those with the surname they are looking for; maybe you could phone some of the Mayo ones - you never know your luck!

  • Hi Dan,

www.eircomphonebook.ie/ search McManamon Residential not business (don't specify county) you'll get 48 most in Mayo.

Tithes definitely only 3 as above all 1832.

  • Col,

Again thanks for all of your help!

Sorry about the repeated postings--might be having computer problems...

I have seen lists of more numerous McManamon's in tithes sent to me could you be focusing on only

Achill or are you looking at the entire county of Mayo?? Our route includes Tramore. Bantry, Dingle, Galway, and Ashford Castle---are you nearby??

  • Hi Dan,

That was Mcmanamons in the whole of Ireland.

Regrettably I am not in Ireland at the moment - going over next year in May - but I live in Safety Beach NSW Australia. It's a beautiful part of the world near Coffs Harbour. Come on down some time.

Sorry you're not getting to Achill - next trip maybe.
